Kindness for Tomorrow’s Self

Today’s post will be brief, my friends. At present I work four part-time jobs, am pursuing my PhD in engineering full time, and have an assortment of other commitments. By the time I get home at night I am bone crushingly tired — much like many of you I expect. Activities within a day can be relentless; so can days stacking up one upon another.

My bedtime is generally 9 pm as I get up between 4:30 and 5 am. This means that if I arrive home from work after 8 pm, I have precious little time to prepare for the next day. On these occasions, when I know I cannot get it all done, I pick one or two things that will be a kindness to my tomorrow’s self: unpack my dirty lunch dishes, set up coffee for the morning, tidy up the kitchen, pack the next day’s lunch, or when I am really exhausted, crawl into bed a little early and call it done. I do not do this entire list, just one or two items.

Setting myself up for the next day puts a little spring in my step and a smile on my face.

What act of kindness can you give your tomorrow’s self?
